THE final countdown is on before the curtain rises on Killarney Musical Society’s eagerly-awaited 33rd production, the smash hit all-singing, all-dancing Sweet Charity, which will be staged in the INEC on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of next week.
The finishing touches are currently being put to scenes and dance numbers, the sets are being erected and costumes finalised and everything points to another fantastic production.
Sweet Charity follows the romantic trials and tribulations of a girl who wanted to be loved, Charity Hope Valentine, played by Lily MacMonagle.
Charity is a dance partner-for-hire in New York City and though the job may be decidedly undesirable, her romanticism and unfailing optimism lift her out of her circumstances and help her reach for a life beyond.

In the past, she’s been strung along and hung out to dry by a series of bad relationships and lousier men but when she meets neurotic, shy actuary Oscar, played by Rory Ward, will she finally find true love at last?
One of the most famous shows by legendary director/choreographer Bob Fosse and with a laugh-a-minute script by the incomparable Neil Simon, every audience is destined to fall in love with Charity’s limitless spirit, as she lives life hopefully ever after.
Killarney Musical Society PRO, Irene Hurley, has thanked all of the show’s patrons and sponsors for their continued financial support and they have been as generous as ever.
“This support is vital to the success of the society and we are truly grateful,” she said.
The main sponsor again this year is Independent Irish Health Foods Ltd.
The audience will be singing along to all the big numbers including Big Spender, If My Friends Could See Me Now, There’s Gotta Be Something Better Than This, I’m a Brass Band and Baby, Dream Your Dream.
Tickets can be purchased by calling to the Musical Society’s pop-up stand this at Killarney Outlet Centre this Saturday and Sunday, by calling 087-1342314 or the INEC Box Office on 064-6671555.
