Six more deaths and 226 cases nationally

SENIOR public health officials have reported that the number of additional Covid-19 cases notified in Kerry since midnight is less than five.

Nationally today, six additional deaths and 226 new cases of infection were reported.

This brings the number of fatalities since the outset of the pandemic to 2,028 and the number of people known to have contracted the virus to 70,930.

Early this afternoon, 292 patients were being treated in hospitals for coronavirus complications with 36 in intensive care units. There have been 18 additional hospitalisations in the past 24 hours.

Of the cases notified today, 115 are male, 109 are female and 56 per cent are under 45 years of age. The median age is 42.

64 of today’s cases are in Dublin, 41 in Donegal, 23 in Tipperary, 13 in Limerick, 12 in Louth and 12 in Wicklow with the remaining 61 in 16 other counties, including Kerry.
