SAFETY concerns arising from cars, camper vans, lorries and buses using in-vehicle sat-nav devices being directed into a residential area in Killarney, where children are at play, will be addressed in the next month, it has been confirmed.
The problem emerges several times a day at Lackabane Village in Fossa because there is no nameplate at the entrance to prevent driver confusion.
Motorists travelling from Killarney and heading for the Dingle or Milltown road are turning right into Lackabane Village instead of waiting for the correct turn-off at the Golden Nugget bar and restaurant.
The matter was first raised in August 2017 by Cllr Niall Kelleher who said some residents are concerned that it will lead to an accident as there are young children playing on green areas near the entrance road.

The sharp increase in traffic, particularly during the busy summer months, is causing concern, he said.
Cllr Kelleher had told a meeting of the Killarney Municipal District Council that the simple provision of a nameplate sign at the entrance would immediately solve the problem.
Kerry County Council officials have since liaised with the residents’ committee with a view to providing a suitable nameplate and progress has now been made.
Council engineer Vincent Horgan told Cllr Kelleher this week that two limestone signs will be erected at the entrance to Lackabane.
A contractor has been engaged to inscribe the text and the signs will be installed before the end of December, he said.
