FOLLOWING its outstanding success at the Grand Opera House in Belfast, The Miami Showband Musical is on its way to the INEC in Killarney on August 28.
Telling the story of best friends and the band’s songwriters, Fran O’Toole and Des Lee, it is a rollercoaster ride of emotions as the musical takes the audience from the heady days of the 1960s, when the band was known as the Irish Beatles, to the powerful tragedy of 1975 that resulted in three members of the band losing their lives at a bogus paramilitary road check.
Full house notices went up for 10 nights in Belfast as audiences sang, danced and cheered the show to the rafters and it was clear that Marie Jones (Stones In His Pockets) and Martin Lynch (Dancing Shoes: The George Best Story) had another huge hit on their hands
The nine-strong cast includes an amazing live showband made up of some of the best young musicians in Ireland, supported by three actor-singers, adding up to what punters are saying, is a great night out.
Former Miami band member and survivor from the massacre, Des Lee, who has been closely involved in the rehearsals, remarked: “It’s just fantastic. The storyline is an incredibly emotional journey for me to watch but audiences are in for a treat.”
Tickets, priced from €40.20, are available from www.inec.ie or www.ticketmaster.ie.
