
There was a dramatic reduction in the number of gorse fires dealt with by the Kerry Fire Service in the first eight months of this year when compared to 2021.
Firefighters had to deal with 111 gorse blazes between January and September as opposed to 205 for the corresponding period last year.
There was a slight reduction in the number of chimney fires reported, down from 67 to 59, while details of 147 other fires recorded compared to 151 in 2021.
In terms of special services involving the fire service, there were 10 cases of entrapment dealt with between January and September, five incidents involving gas or chemicals and two dealing with hazardous substances.
The fire service was alerted to 132 road traffic accidents compared to 97 for the corresponding period last year, 59 other rescue operations and 112 miscellaneous call-outs.
The total number of service mobilisations from January to September was 998 compared to 993 in 2021.
