Funding for the installation of free Solar PV panels on the rooftops of 125 schools in Kerry has been confirmed
It will provide eligible schools with up to six kilowatts peak of roof-mounted solar photovoltaic installations on their roofs, which equates to approximately 14 solar panels.
Since the launch of the first phase of the programme late last year, more than 1,100 schools have been approved for PV panels on their roofs in 11 areas around the country.

Schools added on this occasion include the Coolick, Lissivigeen, Glenflesk, Raheen, Knockanes, Scoil Bhride Loreto, Knockaderry in Farranfore, Tahilla Community National School, Barradiuff NS, Faha, Tiernaboul, Firies, Kilcummin and Two Mile.
Education Minister, Norma Foley, confirmed that 125 schools out of 162 in Kerry have had free Solar PV panels installed since the launch of the pilot programme late last year.
“This has delivered a rooftop revolution, helping schools in Kerry to reduce their carbon emissions and to reduce their energy bills by up to €1,600 each not just for one year, but every year,” she said.
The solar PV panels in schools are being connected to the electricity grid, so that solar energy can power other homes and businesses when schools are closed at weekends and during school holidays.
