IT’S best known as a famous footballing nursery which is hardly surprising given that it has three Hogan Cups to its credit.

But now St Brendan’s College in Killarney is making its mark in another sporting code with the first hurling squad in the school impressing at a high level.

The college’s under 16 team took part in the recent Munster Colleges competition and gave more than a good account of themselves.

Trained by teacher Paul Kelliher, they did very well against a very strong Kenmare side and were very unlucky to lose by a small margin.

But win, lose or draw, it’s great to see The Sem having a hurling team given the importance of the sport throughout the country and the great skills they young players will learn through their participation.
