CROWDS of supporters are currently making their way to Fitzgerald Stadium in Killarney for one of the most eagerly anticipated football games of the year – a Killarney v Tralee Munster Colleges SFC Corn Uí Mhuirí final.
St Brendan’s College, Killarney will take to the field against old rivals Tralee CBS in what promises to be a thrilling encounter with the winners setting off to represent Kerry in pursuit of the prestigious Hogan Cup.
The Sem has already won the provincial title 22 times, compared to 15 crowns for the CBS, and the Garry McGrath trained Killarney school will start as favourites in this game which will throw-in at 2.00pm.
St Brendan’s College’s path to the final has been most impressive with Killarney Legion star Ryan O’Grady their stand-out player and he has contributed an impressive 2-26 in the campaign to date.
But the Sem is by no means a one-man team and O’Grady will have plenty of support from the likes of last season’s Kerry minor full forward Emmet O’Shea, from Fossa, Michael Lenihan and Mark Cooper of Dr Crokes and Harry Buckley of Fossa.
CBS, meanwhile, will look to Kerry underage star and team captain Seán Quilter, Conor Hayes, Fergal O’Brien and Jordan Kissane to see them through
St Brendan’s College and Tralee CBS have already met in the group stages, with the Killarney lads winning that high-scoring encounter by a single point and the same margin of victory will suffice for Garry McGrath and co this afternoon.
