FOSSA star David Clifford was at his brilliant best as he bagged 1-5 to inspire St Brendan’s College, Killarney to a sensational 29-point victory over HS Clonmel in the Munster Colleges’ Corn Ui Mhuiri final at Mallow today.
The 5-21 to 0-7 win saw Gary McGrath’s charges at their brilliant best and they produced a swashbuckling performance to win their 21st provincial title.
The Sem had two goals on the board within two minutes of the start and that really killed off the game as a contest.
Spa’s Evan Cronin notched the opener and Clifford – an outstanding young player – set up Michael Casey for the second moments later.
With Dr Crokes star Billy Courtney and Lee O’Donoghue absolutely bossing midfield, there was no way Clonmel could live with the power-packed Kerry lads with Clifford, with a fine goal, David Shaw of Crokes and Cronin piling on the agony with a relentless performance to lead 3-10 to 0-6 at half-time.
The Sem continued as they left off on the resumption with six unanswered points inside the opening 10 minutes and they finished with a flourish with further goals from William Courtney and Donnchadh O’Sullivan, the latter a penalty.
