School proud of new €6m base

IF you’ve got it, flaunt it and that’s exactly what Presentation Secondary School, Milltown did at the weekend as it opened the doors of the new €6 million facility to the public.

School authorities rolled out the red carpet to welcome past students, parents, teachers and all members of the community to view the wonderful facilities in the new building which opened at the start of the current school term.

Sunday’s open day, from 10.00am to 2.00pm, showcased the state-of-the-art facilities which finally materialised after a wait of almost 20 years for funding.

For principal Cormac Bonner, his staff and pupils, it marked the start of an exciting new period for the 600-plus pupil school.

The student population in Pres Milltown has spiralled dramatically over the past 30 years and, as a result, the old school had struggled to cope with demand.

The new school was built on a greenfield site, donated by the Presentation Sisters, in the heart of Milltown village.

The school attracts pupils from a vast geographical area, including mid Kerry, west Kerry and Killarney.
