Sarah follows Amanda into inter-county retirement

Sarah Houlihan: Three All-Stars

ONE of the most stylish and successful Kerry lady footballers of the modern era has announced her retirement from the inter-county scene.

Sarah Houlihan has devoted 13 years of her life to the green and gold during which time she earned a reputation of being one of the best forwards in the game.

A three-time All-Star award winner who also won three provincial titles, she has instilled fear into the opposition with her all-action style and ability to run at defences at pace causing all sorts of problems.

Amanda Brosnan: Former captain

The 30-year-old social needs assistant as Cullina National School, plays her club football with Beaufort and she has been a mainstay on the Kerry senior team ever since she made her debut against Cork in 2007.

Sarah remarked on Twitter: “13 years of playing in the green and gold jersey, I feel it’s time I started a new chapter.”

She added: “It has brought me to wonderful places, introduced me to lifelong friends given me millions of memories. Thank you to my family and friends – forever grateful”

Sarah, a former colleges’ star with Intermediate School Killorglin, follows long-time team-mate Amanda Brosnan, also 30, into retirement.

The Dr Crokes midfielder captained her county in the latter stages of the year but, announcing her decision to retire, she remarked: “All good things come to an end, adding that wearing the Kerry jersey has been a huge honour.
