Santa is on his way today

The magic of Christmas in Killarney

SANTA Claus is coming to town – and he’s due to arrive in Killarney just in time for the magical street parade this Saturday evening.

It promises to be a truly memorable event as children and the young at heart line the streets to welcome the VIP visitor who left his log cabin in the North Pole at lunchtime to ensure he arrives in Killarney in plenty of time for the biggest celebration of the year.

Santa and his elves will be joined by some of their great friends from Disneyland, including Minnie and Mickey Mouse and Frozen stars Anna, Elsa and Olaf, as they parade through the streets before parade through the town as the spectacular Christmas lights are switched on to illuminate the November sky.

Prior to the 6 o’clock gala parade the streets of Killarney will be filled with festive lights, music, colour, snow and a whopping 11 spectacular float all with a festive theme.

Santa will also be joined by children from local schools and leading the parade will be the Mayor of Killarney, Cllr John Sheehan, together with his colleagues from Killarney Municipal District Council who have provided a top secret parking place for Santa and Rudolph to touch down in their sleigh.

The public can get a great view of Santa all along the parade route which takes in Beech Road, Mission Road, East Avenue Road, College Street, Plunkett Street, Main Street and, finally, New Street.

There will also be Mini Magic Christmas parades on every Saturday before Christmas, all commencing at 6pm.

Recommended family viewing areas will allow for a better view for small children and easier buggy access and families can watch in relative comfort along College Street or at the end of the parade on New Street as the parade.
