
THE death has occurred in Killarney of retired local businessman Con Hartnett who was extremely well known in the town where he operated a thriving hardware store for several years.
Formerly of Boherbue, Co Cork, Con passed away, unexpectedly, on Wednesday and his death has caused great sadness in a town where he was held in very high regard.
With his business partner John Dunlea, Con owned and operated Killarney Hardware – affectionately known as Con and John’s – on Plunkett Street for many years and it was a very busy DIY and gift store.
A passionate Dr Crokes man, Con and his wife, Mary Anne, lived at Mangerton View which was only a short stroll from their busy shop.
Their son, Liam, who works in Killarney Post Office, won an All-Ireland Club Championship medal with Dr Crokes in 1992 and also lined out at full back with the Kerry team on a number of occasions.
Daughter, Mary, is well known in the local tourism industry and she is currently involved with the sales and marketing team in the Killarney Convention Centre.
Predeceased by his brothers Thady, Billy, Gene and Michael and his sisters Nora, Mary and Sheila, Con is survived by his wife and two children, grandchildren Niamh, Ashling, Robert and Ben, daughter-in-law Catherine, son-in-law Pat, brother Paddy, sisters Margaret, Kitty and Eily and other relatives and friends.
Reposing at O’Shea’s Funeral Home, Killarney on Friday evening from 4.30pm to 6.30pm, removal will take place afterwards to St Mary’s Cathedral. Requiem Mass will be on Saturday at 10.30am with burial afterwards in Aghadoe Cemetery, Killarney.
The family has asked for donations in lieu of flowers to be made, if desired, to the Fuschia Ward, St Columbanus Home, Killarney.
