KILLARNEY bid an emotional farewell this Wednesday to Mrs Peggy O’Doherty whose death on Sunday caused a real air of sadness in the town.

A gentle, friendly and caring woman, seldom without a smile on her face, she was well known throughout the town and beyond from her time working side-by-side with her late husband, Frank, in their busy family catering supplies businesses, based in Chapel Lane off New Street.

Peggy (née O’Meara) lived and reared her family in Carn House, Park Drive and she previously resided in St Brendan’s Terrace, Killarney.

At her funeral Mass in St Mary’s Cathedral this morning, celebrated by Fr Niall Howard, Peggy was remembered as a kind and caring lady and a wonderful mother who had great faith and was a regular visitor to Mass and prayer services in St Mary’s Cathedral and the Franciscan Friary.

Predeceased in 2013 by her husband Frank – a proud native of Ballybofey, Co Donegal – Peggy is survived her adult children Mary, Michael and Carmel, son-in-law Noel O’Leary, daughter-in-law Deirdre and her grandchildren Anthony, Adele, Peter and Michael.

Pre-deceased by her sisters Hannah and Eileen and her niece Maureen Hallinan, she is further survived by her sister Mary O’Grady, nephews Tony O’Grady and Tommy Harris, relatives, neighbours and many good friends.

Following the con-celebrated Requiem Mass this morning, Peggy was laid to rest in Aghadoe Cemetery, Killarney.
