The passing of Noel Browne, who will be laid to rest this Saturday, has caused real sadness in Killarney where he served with An Garda Siochána for several years.
Originally from Mallow, Co Cork, he graduated from the training college in Templemore in 1972 and initially served in Monaghan town before moving to Rathmore for three years.
He rose through the ranks and he was transferred to Killarney in 1981, remaining there until his retirement in 2004. He also spent some time at Kerry Airport on immigration duties which was a line of policing he specialised in the latter stages of his career.
Noel was highly regarded as a hugely efficient and popular Detective Garda and he headed up and solved a number of high profile cases over the years.
From Glenview Drive in Woodlawn, he is survived by his wife Catherine, children Maria, Karen, Linda and Niall.
Noel was the much loved grandfather of Leona, Ciara, Aoife, Saoirse, Roisín, Evan and Lee and he is further survived by his sons-in-law Patrick O’Donoghue, Nicholas Curtin and Gerard Costello, daughter-in-law Laura McCarthy, sisters Mary Foley and Sarann O’Brien, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
The Requiem Mass will be celebrated in St Mary’s Cathedral this Saturday at 10.30am followed by burial in the followed burial afterwards in Killarney Burial Ground, Knockeenduve,
