AN exciting new cycling event, which will bring competitors on a course circling the spectacular Ring of Beara, has been organised for Saturday, May 23 and it is sure to generate enormous interest for the increasing number of people taking to the saddle.

Participants will cycle one of the country’s most spectacular peninsulas and it will enable them to embrace the unspoiled beauty of the Wild Atlantic Way.

The event is also expected to be a big boost for the Killarney area where many of the participants and their families and friends will base themselves before, during and after the event.

There is a route to suit all levels of fitness, from the seasoned cyclist to the daytripper, and they can choose from a 140km course or a shorter 100km route.

Cyclists can experience the magnificent scenery of the mountains, valleys and the rugged coastline of the Beara Peninsula. Both routes will start in Kenmare town, heading out the Beara Peninsula towards Lauragh.

It will pass through some picturesque and quaint towns, including Ardgroom, Eyeries, Allihies, Castletownbere, Adrigole and Glengarriff before returning to Kenmare. Food and water stations will be dotted along the routes.

The event will finish in Kenmare town centre which will guarantee a great atmosphere and superb facilities, including hot food, hot tubs, massage, entertainment and a sounenir medal for all cyclists.

The Ring of Beara Cycle is being organised by the Kenmare Marketing and Events Group with the help of local company Elite Event Management.

All money raised from registration fees and sponsorship will go towards staging the professionally run event to the highest standard where every need of all the cyclists will be catered for.

Any surplus money will be spent on local initiatives such as Christmas lights, a Hallowe’en festival and marketing activities.

The fee for entries received before January 1 is €40, rising to €45 up to March 1, €55 up to May 20 and €60 for last minute entries.
