IT has been a difficult day for the media in Kerry with confirmation that two magazines published in the county on a weekly basis are to cease publication.
Tralee Outlook and Sliabh Luachra Outlook are to be discontinued but the Killarney Outlook – which enjoys a solid support base – will continue to print although its High Street office has closed and operations have moved to Castleisland.
The freesheet titles are owned by Walsh Colour Print in Castleisland and the closures are part of a restructuring of the business.
In a statement the company said the decision was taken with regret and they thanked readers and advertisers of the two publications.
“We offer our sincere thanks to the journalists, photographers, design, sales and admin staff who have contributed their expertise to making these two quality magazines unfailingly popular in the local community over the past number of years.
“We are grateful for their efforts and very proud of what they have achieved,” the statement read.
The company added: “Unfortunately, as we focus our attention on developing other areas of our businesses that will lead us into the future, we have had to recognise that the media industry is ever changing and take the difficult decision to reduce our commitments in that market”.
