RTÉ’s Miriam stunned by music man’s magic

Accordion maestro Liam O’Connor has won a prestigious Hall of Fame Award for his services to the arts, culture and entertainment.

And in the process he earned a whole new a whole host of fans with his performance at the Rémy Martin Cork Business Awards ceremony when he turned in a dynamic live performance that drew enthusiastic plaudits from all in attendance.

The gala black tie event took place at a packed convention centre at the Clayton Hotel Silver Springs Hotel in Cork.

Event host Miriam O’Callaghan posted on Instagram: “The icing on the cake was the extraordinarily talented Liam O’Connor and his band, comprising of his two remarkable sons and daughter”.

She added: “No wonder O’Connor, who played with Michael Flatley’s Lord of the Dance, has been called the Jimi Hendrix of the accordion. It was a stunning moment watching him in action as he showed all of us there his magic. It was incredible”

The Newmarket, Co Cork native, now Killarney based Liam was joined on stage by his family members Saoirse, Oisín and Cillian for a spectacular performance that brought the house down.

Liam holds a Guinness World Records listing for the fastest fingers in the world in playing the accordion. He has played all over the world and recorded with some of the entertainment world’s top acts.
