KILLARNEY children are being afforded an opportunity to learn to play a fun new game.
Coaches from Rounders Ireland will be working alongside Kerry County Board staff, as well as students from the Sporting Chance programme at the National Learning Network, who will provide additional individual skills training for the game of rounders, if required.
Rounders draws on a different set of skills than the conventional GAA games and is very good for developing agility, hand-eye co-ordination, balance and aerobic fitness.
Coaches from Rounders Ireland will also be running an inter-club training session this Saturday June at John Mitchels GAA Club in Tralee.
Meanwhile, fun-filled Gaelic for All sessions, promoted by the Kerry County Board, have proved so popular that they have been extended for another two weeks.
They will continue from 6-7pm each Thursday, until June 25, at Fossa GAA Club.
The Kerry GAA’s Inclusion and Integration Committee said parents of the children participating have already seen the benefits in such a short time.
The sessions focus on developing the basic skills of Gaelic football in a fun, enjoyable and non-competitive environment, as well as working on basic fundamental movements such as agility, balance and coordination. . The programme is co-ordinated by coaches from the Kerry County Board with one-to one sessions available if required.
The event open to children up to 14 years and children who are not currently playing with a club are especially welcome.
