Road must progress as a matter of urgency

Mayor Brendan Cronin: Road delay concerns

The Mayor of Killarney has expressed “very serious concerns” regarding the ongoing delays by Transport Infrastructure Ireland in identifying a preferred route corridor for the new N22 road from Farranfore to Killarney.

He said prolonging the deliberations is having a very negative impact on all affected landowners for many years

Cllr Cronin also voiced concern recent media reports that the Green Party may be responsible for delaying a number of major projects.

This follows reports that Transport Minister Eamon Ryan issued a directive that money given to Transport Infrastructure Ireland is to be only spent on planning and design.

“As this route is of such importance, particularly to alleviate the continuous traffic congestion accessing Killarney, I am now calling on Transport Minister Eamon Ryan’s department to clarify if the reasons for delaying this project and to give a clear public commitment that they will fund and progress this N22 new road project as a matter of urgency,” Mayor Cronin said.
