THIS series of photographs highlights the fact that essential safety work on the main Ring of Kerry road is continuing at pace and Kerry County Council has confirmed that the project is on schedule.
The busy N71 Ring of Kerry road, between Torc Waterfall and the car park for Dinis Cottage, has been closed to all traffic since June 24 and the proposal is to have the work completed by Friday, July 5 which is the eve of the Ring of Kerry charity cycle.
Although the timing of the road closure during the busy summer season led to some criticism from businesses, the council had to follow best advice from engineers engaged by Transport Infrastructure Ireland following concerns over the safety of a retaining wall and road at Dinis.
The contractors engaged are also carrying out night-time work to minimise the duration of the closure.
A spokesperson for the local authority said Kerry County Council, in consultation with the contractor, is striving to minimise the closure time, in particular for local businesses, tourism operators and for the charity cycle.
The council said: “Works are proceeding well and on schedule”.
