AN estimated 6,000 cyclists will hit the road for this year’s Ring of Kerry charity cycle which will take place on Saturday, July 6.
Coomakista Pass will again be the focal point for many as it is established as the infamous ‘breaking point’ after cyclists have climbed the 215m (700ft) pass from Waterville. It is long established as the best stop for meeting friends and getting the obligatory photograph and this year, to add a bit of extra fun, cyclists will be encouraged take part in the first Triangle Dance-off at Coomakista and get a snapshot of themselves doing so whatever time they get there.
Fáilte Ireland has come on board to add to the charity fun with a promotional hamper of Wild Atlantic Way merchandise for the best triangle dance photograph set against the backdrop of the gorgeous Coomakista.
The hashtag to enter is #TriangleDanceROKCC and the details for general posts on the day are: Facebook: @RingofKerryCharityCycle, instagram:@RingofKerryCycle, Twitter: @RingOKerryCycle
This year’s charities include Aras Mhuire Nursing Home, Cúnamh Iveragh, Breakthrough Cancer Research, Kerry Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre, Recovery Haven and St Mary of Angels.
There are also an additional five charities who will be allocated funds from the registration proceeds and they are Camphill Community, Dingle Brú Columbanus, Cork, Ard Curam Day Care Centre, Southwest Counselling Centre and the National Rehabilitation Centre in Dublin.
Over the past 36 years, the 175km Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle has raised over €15 million for 150 charity organisations.
