Residents want to avoid situations where they are in fear

Pinewood Estate: Residents have concerns

Concerned residents in a section of Pinewood Estate in Killarney have complained that they have to constantly deal with a number of issues that arise at the rear of their properties and they have asked Kerry County Council to raise the height of a back boundary wall to give them peace of mind.

Their difficulties were raised by Cllr Marie Moloney at a meeting of Killarney Municipal District Council this Wednesday and she said they are seeking greater privacy and security.

Cllr Marie Moloney: Asked for wall to be raised

“They wasn’t to avoid situations where they are in fear any stage,” she said.

Cllr Moloney said the boundary wall was in a very poor state and she offered some of her councillor’s allocation to paint it but all the residents want is for height to be added to the wall for protection purposes.

Council officials said, however, that for that work to take place it would require knocking the existing wall and that’s not on the priority list.

The local authority said the existing gardens to the houses impacted have inner and outer blockwork rear walls rising to 1.8m and 1.1m in height respectively and that provided adequate privacy and security.

The outer wall, in particular, cannot be extended in height to ensure structural stability, it was stressed.
