A MAN who collapsed on a popular walking route on the old Kenmare Road was airlifted to hospital after being assisted by the Kerry Mountain Rescue Team.
The rescue volunteers were alerted by two hikers who found the victim, an Irish man in his 30s, in a collapsed state.
A total of 23 members of the team responded to the call-out along with the ambulance service and R115 Coastguard helicopter.
The man was transferred to the helicopter by stretcher and flown to Kerry General Hospital.
The rescue commenced at 5.15pm on Thursday and the volunteers returned to base just after 7.00pm.
Meanwhile, six members of Kerry Mountain Rescue Team responded to a request for assistance from their colleagues in Galway in a search for a missing walker in the Twelve Bens, Connemara.
The Galway team had been searching overnight, in very difficult weather, and sought support from rescue teams across the country.
The injured walker was located shortly after 2.00pm the next day and he was transferred to an ambulance by stretcher.
