
The death has occurred, following an illness, of Fr Seamus McKenna who was a teacher and former President in St Brendan’s College, Killarney.
From Leataoibh in Ballyferriter, Fr McKenna was a priest of the Diocese of Kerry and a noted Irish scholar.
He served in a number of parishes before he joined the teaching staff at St Brendan’s College in the 1970’s where he specialised in Irish and career guidance.
He became the last clerical Sem President from 1995 to 1997 at which stage he was succeeded by lay principal Tony Behan.
Fr McKenna worked for many years with the Cork Regional Marriage Tribunal where his work was very highly regarded.
Predeceased by his parents Bridget and Patrick, brother Seán, sister Hannah, brother-in-law Denis and sister-in-law Eileen, he is survived by his brothers Mike and Tom, nieces Maria, Bríd, Eileen and Nessa, nephews John, Pádraig, Donnacha and Éanna, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and sister-in-law Maura.
He is further survived by the Bishop of Kerry, Ray Browne, the clergy of the Diocese of Kerry, relatives and many friends.
Fr McKenna’s remains are scheduled to arrive at St Vincent’s Church, Baile an Fheirtéaraigh on Saturday for 1.00pm Requiem Mass which will be followed by interment in Keelmalkeadar Cemetary.
