Remembering Linda: Community will gather tonight

The late Linda Eviston will be remembered at the two fundraising events

The final call has gone out for quiz buffs to prepare to make their way to Spillane’s Bar in Headford this Thursday night for a community-organised table quiz to raise funds for a cause close to local hearts.

Proceeds will go to the Comfort for Chemo fund and the event is dedicated to the memory of the late Linda Lucey-Eviston, a native of Curraglass, Glenflesk, who passed away in October 2020.

Comfort for Chemo Kerry is a voluntary charity set up to raise funds to build and equip a state-of-the-art €5 million chemotherapy facility on the grounds of University Hospital Kerry.

The quizmaster tonight will be John (Twin) O’Donoghue and the first of the general knowledge questions is scheduled to be asked at 8.00pm.

Tables of four are invited with an entry fee of €40 per table and donations will also be welcome.

In a linked boost for the Comfort for Chemo fund, Linda Lucey-Eviston’s husband, son and daughter will partake in this year’s 42km Dublin City Marathon at the weekend to raise funds in her memory.

Patrick, Erik and Alannah Eviston, have set up a GoFundMe page and they are already close to their €7,000 target for the charity.

The Evistons said the new Comfort for Chemo base is badly needed as the current unit, despite everyone’s best efforts, needs to be replaced.

“People with cancer are suffering enough so we want to help them get the best treatment possible. All donations greatly appreciated,” they said.
