A master of the Lakes of Killarney for a generation and a legend in rowing circles has been honoured for his lifelong dedication to the sport.

Jimmy Doyle, a master craftsman and boat builder, was the coach and cox to numerous crews, at a local and national level, down through the years and he became the go-to expert on how to win races.

His wonderful contribution has been celebrated by Fossa Rowing Club to mark the 30th anniversary of winning the Junior Sixes Cup, at Killarney Regatta in 1994.

Jimmy steered them to victory that day and the appreciative crew this week treated him to a reunion lunch in the Royal Hotel, Killarney.

Members of the crew competed on the national, international and world stage in the years that follow and they attributed their great success to Jimmy’s knowledge of rowing, racing boats and winning.
