A real treat: Foraging food and making sandwiches

TOURIST service providers in Kerry got an opportunity to sample some of the county’s delights for themselves when they joined the Kerry Convention Bureau members’ mystery tour.

As well as providing an opportunity to catch up with their industry colleagues, they were also presented with an overview of the exciting plans to grow business tourism for Kerry in the year ahead.

With representatives from over 15 member organisations in attendance, the group boarded a bus in Killarney and headed for an unknown destination.

The first stop was Ballyseedy Woods in Tralee for an immersive, educational and sustainable hands-on foraging adventure led by the team from Traleeculinarygangsters.com.

It was then on to the Rose Hotel where those involved participated in a corporate social responsibility activity, making 200 sandwiches for the Tralee Soup Kitchen.

The bureau team was joined by representatives from industry partners Sam Johnston from Fáilte Ireland, John Griffin from Kerry County Council and Arthur McGauran of the Society for Incentive Travel Excellence.

Kerry Convention Bureau manager, Becky Hargrove, remarked: “As well as looking forward to 2020 and beyond, the event was also an opportunity for us to thank our members for all their support and hard work in 2019.

524 international conferences and business events worth €212 million have been secured by Fáilte Ireland’s business tourism and events team last year.

Fáilte Ireland CEO Paul Kelly said €47million of this business was won for regional Ireland through regional convention bureau teams in Kerry, Galway Cork and Shannon.
