Rail passengers tell of ordeal

lirish rail logoPASSENGERS travelling by rail from Dublin to Killarney on Saturday evening were delayed by almost three hours due to a major mechanical fault.

Those on board the packed 1 o’clock service from Heuston to Tralee were affected on one of the busiest weekends of the year.

One Kerry-bound passenger complained that the train didn’t arrive in Killarney until close to 8 o’clock, several hours after he had boarded in Dublin.

He said the train stopped suddenly near Monasterevin and the catering carriage ran out of drinks and food, although supplies were replenished after Mallow.

“We had to change at Portlaoise as well as Mallow.

“We had six packed carriages leaving Dublin and when the replacement train pulled up it had only four carriages and they were already half full – it’s crazy,” the frustrated passenger told KillarneyToday.com.

He also claimed the toilets on board were not working properly and there was no air condition on the train with passengers unable to open windows.

Irish Rail apologised to passengers and assured them that refunds could be claimed.
