KILLARNEY is to embrace the colour purple with a special community celebration to celebrate the town’s retention of the important Purple Flag status.
The accreditation officially recognises Killarney as having achieved excellence in managing the night-time economy and it acknowledges safety, vibrancy, diversity on the streets between the hours of 5.00pm and 5.00am.

Killarney will celebrate the achievement on the weekend of October 18-20 and businesses in the town have been encouraged to take part by lighting their premises in purple, decorating their windows accordingly and asking their staff to dress in purple over the course of the weekend.
Prominent buildings, business premises and cultural and heritage attractions will be illuminated in purple and there will be a number of purple-themed events, including the serving of non-alcoholic purple cocktails in local hostelries.
The Purple Flag Committee, chaired by security consultant Frank Doran, has acquired Purple Flag stickers which will be circulated to businesses in the coming days and they are asked to display them in a prominent position.
On the afternoon of Saturday, October 19 the official Purple Flag mascot will be out and about and ready to mingle with children and the young at heart and he will also be popping into local businesses to say hello.
Killarney was first awarded the Purple Flag in 2014 and successfully retained it following full renewal assessments.
