It’s often said that the GAA is like a religion in Kerry so if they occasionally clash, it can lead to certain difficulties.
The annual Mass in Aghadoe Cemetery, which had initially been fixed for Monday, July 31, has been rescheduled for the previous Monday night, July 24, due to the All-Ireland senior football championship final taking place on the last weekend of the month.
Should Kerry reach the final, it would be played in Croks Park on Sunday, July 30 and the homecoming would be planned for the Monday night.
The Aghadoe Graveyard Committee said that outcome could cause major traffic problems for all involved so it has been decided to change the date and bring the Mass forward to the previous Monday at 8.00pm.
A bus service will leave the High Street car park at 6.00pm on the night to transport people to the open air Mass which always attracts a huge attendance.
Meanwhile, the Mass at Killaha Graveyard will be celebrated at 7.30pm on Monday next, June 12 and the open air ceremony at Killarney Burial Ground will be on Monday, June 26.
The traditional Mass in the New Cemetery Mass will be on Monday, August 7 at 7.00pm.
