Proper funding can help save lives

Cllr Martin Grady

Kerry County Council is to write to the Ministers for Health and Public Expenditure seeking that more funding and resources for mental health services across the county.

Cllr Martin Grady said early intervention is the key to success when it comes to mental health and, as it stands, not enough it being done.

He said a situation has arisen where are there are sufficient beds in the psychiatric wards in University Hospital Kerry but there are not enough staff.

“When it comes to mental health prevention is better than cure and, with a proper service, the loss of life can be prevented,” Cllr Grady said.
