KERRY GAA public relations officer John O’Leary has joined RTÉ’s Sunday Game presenter Michael Lyster in the Gaelic Writers’ Association spotlight.
The Spa, Killarney clubman has been named PRO of the Year while the Sunday Game frontman has received a lifetime achievement award.
They were honoured at a gala reception in the Jackson Court Hotel in Dublin at the weekend.
Others honoured on the include Armagh footballer Oisin McConville and Tipperary hurler Brendan Cummins who were both inducted into the Hall of Fame.
In addition, Dublin’s Philly McMahon was named football personality of the year with Kilkenny defender Paul Murphy winning the hurling accolade.
Mr O’Leary is one of the most efficient and capable PROs in the country and the adjudicators said he was a richly deserving winner of the award.
GWA chairman Gordon Manning remarked: “These awards allow us, as journalists and broadcasters, the chance to honour and recognise the great players, administrators and fellow reporters who over the years have added so much to the fabric of Gaelic games.”
