LOCAL hero, the very brave Ian O’Connell, returned home for the first time to Killarney last Thursday after his accident last August. There was a welcome home ceremony for Ian in Spa on Friday with family and friends.
He is a role model for his attitude and, as he says, if you can’t stand up, stand out. Ian went back to the National Rehabilitation Centre on Monday but hopes to be back home in April.
He was grand marshal for Spa this St Patrick’s Day in the parade in Killarney. A special mention to his pals Cian, Connie, Ollie and Michael. who marched alongside Ian.
We wish Ian every good wish and, hopefully, a full recovery in the near future. Many thanks to the organising committee for the parade, Lily of Killarney, Mary T Moynihan, Tiernaboul National School students, Cllr John Joe Culloty and everyone who marched under the Spa banner.

It took Cordal 20 minutes to get their first score and Spa added another four points from Shane Fenon and Niall McCarthy, to bring the half-time score to Spa 1-5 Cordal 0-2.
In the second half Spa were once again off to a great start with great points from the very impressive Niall McCarthy. David Spillane was very dangerous with his attacks further widening the gap. Mike McCarthy added to Spa’s tally.
Cordal scored two frees from the hardworking Philip O’Connor and Brian Reidy but the speedy Ryan O’Carroll caused havoc with Cordal’s defence. Spa were the stronger team and deserved their victory.
