President Michael D Higgins was assured of some quality reading material for Easter when he was presented with a copy of Kerry author and historian Dr Owen O’Shea’s new book on the life and times of Castlemaine revolutionary and republican leader Dan Mulvihill.
The IRA commander wrote his 20,000-word autobiography shortly before his death in 1985 but never fulfilled his ambition to have it published.

The memoir, One Man’s Ireland, which has now been edited by O’Shea and published by Merrion Press, charts Mulvihill’s central role in many of the most important events in 20th-century Ireland.
Owen who holds a PhD in Irish history, was invited to Aras an Uachtarain by President Higgins who was delighted to receive a personal copy of the new books which the author describes as an extremely special project in that it tells the story of such an important figure from his home parish.
One Man’s Ireland: Memoirs of Dan Mulvihill, Maverick Republican is published by Merrion Press and is now available in bookshops across Kerry or online from owenoshea.ie.
