Poor ‘phone coverage causing local concern

CllrCahill has raised the issue with ComReg, the government body responsible

Mobile telephone coverage is extremely poor in parts of South Kerry particularly throughout the Dromid region, Kerry general election candidate Michael Cahill has complained.

He said residents are exceptionally concerned for the health and wellbeing of residents and visitors to the area.

Cllr Michael Cahill: Coverage required

“Modern telecommunications need to be operating at 100 per cent to ensure contact can be easily made with emergency services and that vulnerable people with medical needs can be accessed quickly.

“I am assured by residents of Dromid that if a new communications mast is required to improve coverage a suitable site will be available,” he said.

Cllr Cahill has raised the issue with ComReg, the government body responsible, as well as Kerry County Council, Vodafone and a number of other suppliers.

“As Cathaoirleach of the Kenmare Municipal District, I recently attended the official turning on of high-speed broadband in the Black Valley and that was a significant day for the local community.

“I am anxious that every corner of our county will be covered with not just proper mobile phone coverage but also high-speed broadband going forward. This is hugely important to our people, to this generation and all generations to come,” said Cllr Cahill.
