Poll-topper Sean has real cause to celebrate

MEP Sean Kelly threw a party for his friends and supporters in Killarney at the weekend to mark his successful return to the European Parliament.

Refreshments, alive band and great craic awaited all in attendance and the rousing guest speaker in the Killarney Plaza Hotel on the night was Deputy Michael Ring.

The former Kerry County Board and East Kerry Board Chairman, who went on to become a very successful President of the GAA, has been an MEP since 2009 and he was returned to Brussels for another five-year term following the June poll.

And he did so in some style by exceeding the quota of 114,761 by over 8,000 votes to be elected in the first county and become the first Irish MEP over the line.

Despite partying the night before, Mr Kelly was up bright and early on Sunday to officially open the All-Ireland Vintage Show at Muckross Traditional Farm before attending the Fossa v Laune Rangers Intermediate Club Championship semi-final that afternoon in Fitzgerald Stadium.
