WITH two thirds of the ballot boxes opened at the official count centre in the Killarney Sports and Leisure Centre, the Yes majority was approaching 60 per cent and the No vote was close to 40 per cent.
The larger urban areas of Killarney and Tralee returned comprehensive Yes votes but there was a considerable number of areas where the No campaign won the day. According to earlier tally figures, the No majority areas included Glenflesk, Gneeveguilla, Currow, Knocknagoshel, Ballyduff and Portmagee.
Interestingly, the tally people were suggesting that there was 60-40 per cent Yes vote returned in Kilgarvan, despite strong campaigning for a No vote from the Healy-Rae brothers.
An official count in Kerry is expected in the mid to late afternoon.
