THERE has been a welcome for a report showing €107 million in spending on sustainable transport in 2020, compared to €39.6 million in 2019, with the figure set to rise to €241 million in 2021.

The National Transport Authority’s annual Sustainable Transport Measures Grants report details a significant increase in spending on various projects in the programme for 2020, including investment in Killarney and Dingle.

Green Party representative in Killarney Diarmaid Griffin said the pedestrianisation of Plunkett Street in Killarney created an oasis for pedestrians and cyclists.
“Other traffic calming measures have also pushed back against the sense of traffic overload in the town. But we need to see more of this type of spending. I’d encourage Kerry County Council to apply for as much funding as possible,” he said.
The Green Party said the report shows a real commitment to sustainable long-lasting infrastructure throughout the country.
