Kerry County Council, in partnership with Transport Infrastructure Ireland, is proposing to develop a new greenway between Cahersiveen and Reenard with the new amenity, approximately 5km in length, representing an extension to the South Kerry Greenway.
Work is already under way on a 27-kilometre South Kerry Greenway which is running from Glenbeigh village to the town of Cahersiveen.
The local authority said it will be an important addition to the Kingdom of Kerry Greenways.
Public consultation commenced this Thursday on the various proposed route options for the greenway and submissions will be invited from members of the public over the coming weeks. A public information evening will take place at Cahersiveen Library this Thursday between 3pm and 8pm.

The proposed route options include:
- Valentia Estuary Coastal Option
- Old Valencia Railway Line Option
- Local Road L7528 Option
- Old Valencia Railway Line Option
- N70 and Local Road L4005 Option
- Greenfield Offline Option

The project team would like to hear views on the proposed options and any issues people would like the team to consider such as constraints, opportunities, key features along the proposed routes and any other relevant considerations. This information will inform a decision on and the development of the preferred, or final, option.
Members of the project team will be available at the information event on Thursday to meet with interested parties to discuss the project, the proposed options, and the next steps in the development of the project.
The detailed plans will be published on the Kerry County Council website on Thursday where submissions and observations can be made.
Copies of the plans will also be available at Kerry County Council offices in Cahersiveen and Tralee and at the Kerry National Roads Office in Castleisland. Submissions can be made until Friday, November 15 and by email to greenways@kerrycoco.ie.
