Phone left behind after early morning station dash

Killarney Railway Station

UPDATE Friday 8.45pm: All’s well that ends well. On their arrival back to Boston this Friday night, the American visitors made contact with Killarmey Garda Stiaton to enquire if a mobile phone had been handed in and arrangements are now being made to ship it to them at their US home.

A Good Samaritan Killarney man who dropped five American visitors to Killarney Railway Station when the taxi they booked didn’t show up was upset to find, after the train had departed, that one of them had left a mobile phone in his car.

He was driving to work shortly after 7.30am on Thursday when he stopped at an ATM machine on New Street and he met the four adults who were travelling with a toddler.

They told him their plight and he offered to drive them to the station to ensure they caught the early morning train to Dublin on time.

It was only afterwards that he discovered the Samsung mobile phone on the back seat of the vehicle.

Now he is hoping that somebody will know who the visitors are to enable him to reunite them with the phone which could be storing family or holiday photographs or important information.

The man’s sister told KillarneyToday.com that he believes the travelling party may have comprised two grandparents and the parents of the toddler and they might have been staying in the New Street area as he encountered them outside Healy’s grocery store.

He handed the phone into Killarney Garda Station but it is locked and password protected. The man also contacted the American Embassy in Dublin in case the visitors made contact.

“We know it’s only a phone but we don’t know what information is stored on it and there could be very sentimental photographs as well,” said his sister, Eileen.

She has appealed to anybody that might have provided accommodation for the American visitor – a mature couple a younger couple and a small child – to get in touch if they have a forwarding address or a contact telephone number. It is possible that they may have been staying in an apartment of an Airbnb.
