A total of 336 bags of rubbish were collected in the greater Killarney area during Kerry Clean-Up Day on Saturday.

Killarney Chamber of Tourism and Commerce has reported that 100 bags were collected from the county bounds to Balllyvourney, 62 from Moll’s Gap to Muckross and 55 from Ballydowney to the main Killorglin road at Beaufort

An additional 51 bags of refuse were collected from Cleeny to Farranfore, 33 bags from Kerry Airport to Castleisland and 35 bags from the Golden Nugget to the Milltown road and Aghadoe.

Mayor of Kerry Cllr John Francis Flynn has thanked the thousands volunteers who took part on Saturday when thousands of bags of litters were collected from the roadsides and towns and villages during the seventh annual clean-up which was organised by KWD Recycling and Kerry County Council.

“This was another fantastic turnout and it shows how civic-minded many of our citizens are when it comes to keeping the county neat and tidy.

“Despite the rain showers, people of all ages rolled up their sleeves and got involved from early morning,” he said.
