A KERRY TD has said his office is “inundated” with people trying to navigate the application process to recalculate their pension entitlements
Deputy Martin Ferris and his daughter, Cllr Toireasa Ferris, have called on the Minister for Social Protection to review the current process of recalculations with a view to simplifying it as it is causing confusion and frustration for applicants.
“Many people are finding the process confusing and are extremely frustrated,” he said.
Pension recalculation is for pensions awarded after 1 September 2012 and the holder may be entitled to a higher rate of pay. They could also benefit from the new home caring periods if they were out of work to provide care for someone in the past or stayed at home to mind children.
“We are helping anyone who contacts us but the minister and her department should simplify the process for applicants to ensure all those that are entitled to apply can apply in a proper and speedy manner,” Deputy Ferris stated.
