THE Bishop of Kerry has enthusiastically welcomed the Taoiseach’s announcement on the relaxation of the Covid-19 guidelines but he has pleaded with the public to continue to adhere to public health advice to ensure everybody is kept safe from the threat of the coronavirus.
Bishop Ray Browne welcomed the fact that congregations are again permitted in church, shops are reopening and other activities can recommence with a greater freedom of movement leading up to and during Christmas.
“People are struggling and, therefore, this news and the good news concerning vaccines will help us all,” he said.
Bishop Browne thanked God for the work and expertise of NPHET and all those involved in public services as well as the government and public representatives.

“They have served us well in the pandemic. Please give 100 per cent in following the public health guidelines to keep all safe,” he said.
The bishop said the move to Level 3 this Tuesday has given everybody a great boost as Advent begins and spirits are lifted as people begin to prepare for Christmas.
“Amid all the material preparations, be sure to prepare to honour the birth of Jesus Christ our Saviour. Put the crib, the marvellous Good News of the incredible mystery of the baby born to Mary in a stable in Bethlehem, at the centre of your Christmas,” he encouraged the Kerry public.
Bishop Browne said during the coming week a clearer idea will emerge of how people can celebrate their Christmas faith in the churches and in the home.
“It will be a quieter Christmas, a simpler Christmas and it will still be a good Christmas. Give priority to the happiness of all children. Their happiness is most important,” he said.
