Pedal power to boost Kerry charity

THE Kerry branch of Down Syndrome Ireland will be one of the beneficiaries of this year’s Tour de Munster charity cycle which will be celebrating its 19th year in August. It will take to the roads of Munster from August 8-11, raising funds and awareness for the Munster branches of DSI and individual beneficiaries.

Details of the 2019 Tour de Munster, including the 600km route, were officially announced at the at DSI Cork’s Field of Dreams which was attended by branch members from Kerry.

Over 120 amateur cyclists will start the 600km, four-day tour around the six counties of Munster and funds raised from the tour contribute hugely to providing vital services for DSI members.

Cycling legend Seán Kelly who will once again show his support by joining the tour which will roll into Kerry, via the car ferry to Tarbert, on August 9 before the participants head to Listowel and Tralee. On Saturday, August 10 the event will take in Dingle, Annascaul, Inch, Castlemaine, Milltown, Killarney, Moll’s Gap and Kenmare.

In 2018, the charity cycle raised a phenomenal €256,404 bringing the total to over €2.3 million for the Munster branches of DSI since the partnership began.
