Fossa seniors played Cordal on Sunday in the Fr Galvin Cup and it proved to be a very entertaining game of football. Fossa started brightly with the O’Shea brothers, Tadgh and Mikey, kicking a brace of very good points to give them a solid lead after 10 minutes.
Fintan Coffey, Lorcan Daly and Paudie Clifford were winning a lot of ball around the middle of the field and this gave our forwards a plentiful supply of ball. Two further Tadgh O’Shea points were followed by a great goal from Paudie Clifford after some excellent build up play in the 20th minute of the half. This left Fossa leading at half time, 1-7 to 0-4.
Donald O’Sullivan opened the second half scoring with a free but Cordal gradually clawed their way back into the game with a couple of points. Paudie Clifford had an immense second half and points from Tadgh O’Shea and an excellent score from Fintan Coffey kept the score board ticking over. Cordal never gave up the chase and added further points as the game entered the last quarter.
Dara Rice was using his pace to great effect at wing back and Anthony Wharton looked very fit and was defending intelligently. Cordal struck for a goal in the 25th minute which meant that the game finished in a weather of excitement but Fossa defended well and used all their experience to seal a win on a score of 1-12 to 1-11.
Paudie Clifford was presented with the Aquila Club man-of-the-match atch award from Johnny Brosnan which was well deserved and overall the management can be happy with a solid team performance which sees them through to the next round against Firies.

The second half saw Eoin Talbot take control in midfield and Harry Buckley turning in a superb display. The backs also tightened up with Ruairi Doyle, William O’Brien and Richard Wallace playing very well and Fossa controlled the game as a result.
