A well-known hair stylist who is walking all the way from Killarney to Athea in County Limerick to create a greater awareness of the importance of mental health is scheduled to reach his destination this Saturday.

Pat O’Neill set off from Killarney on Friday and he was accompanied, in stages, by friends and well-wishers willing him on and encouraging him every step of the way.

Pat undertook the 60km marathon journey in memory of his friend James Collins and all those who need support and help.

He stressed that his walk was not a fundraiser but an opportunity to get people – particularly men – talking more about their health and wellbeing.

Pat set out to meet and chat with as many people as possible along the route as part of his one-man mission to get people talking more.

He scheduled stop-offs along the way and stayed overnight in Abbeyfeale and he is due to arrive in Athea – where his pal James Collins hailed from – at lunchtime this Saturday where he will plant a 10-year-old oak tree in his memory.
