Paris in the Autumn has its own magic

WHATEVER about the lure of Paris in the Spring, the most romantic city in the world can also weave its magic when the Autumn leaves are falling as a group of 45 students from St Brigid’s Presentation Secondary School in Killarney discovered this week.

The transition and fifth year students were accompanied by five members of staff on the trip of a lifetime, departing from Cork Airport last Saturday for an event-packed four-day trip to the spectacularly beautiful and culture-rich capital of France.

Wasting no time, that afternoon the group visited Montmartre and having negotiated the steep and cobbled streets, they reached the Basilica of Sacre-Coeur which sits on the crest of the hill.

The St Brigid’s group had an absolutely fantastic time in Paris

Not surprisingly, perhaps, they found time to sample the many different crêpes on offer and enjoyed the breathtaking views on their travels. Later in the evening, the students and staff embarked on a boat tour along the Seine, viewing the capital’s iconic landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Notre Dame, the Musée d’Orsay and many more monuments which form the true richness of the Paris heritage.

On Sunday, they visited the Louvre – the world’s largest art museum – before taking in the imposing medieval Notre-Dame de Paris. Needless to say, the overly energetic pigeons surrounding the cathedral were a huge hit with the Pres girls. The Eiffel Tower was the next stop and most of the students made it to the top and captured some amazing pictures of Paris and its environs.

After a good night’s sleep, the St Brigid’s group headed for Disneyland on Monday morning and spent the full day there between the Walt Disney Studios Park and the main theme park. To make the occasion even more memorable, the visit concluded with a spectacular illuminations show which marks the 25th Anniversary of Disneyland Paris.

“There were sad faces leaving the hotel on Tuesday morning as the bus made its way towards Charles de Gaulle Airport to make the journey home but it was the trip of a lifetime and it was thoroughly enjoyed by all,” said vice principal Mairéad Lucey.
