FRIENDS and neighbours of a popular Killarney woman, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis this time last year, have rallied to her side to support her in her struggle with the illness.
Mum-of-four Maureen Kelliher, from Headford, was completely shocked when she was diagnosed in February of last year. It has turned her life upside down, with her everyday mobility significantly compromised over the past 12 months.
But despite her reliance on a walking aid and the limitations she has to endure, Maureen doesn’t complain, gets on with life as best she can and she refuses to allow her situation to get her down.
“She is an inspiration in how she deals with every situation that come her way with a bright smile,” said friends who have set up a fund to ensure Maureen is given a helping hand when she needs it.
“If you were ever in need of a helping hand Maureen would be the first there. So now it’s our turn to give Maureen a helping hand in this difficult time in her life to help make life a little bit easier,” they said.
The Friends of Maureen Kelliher today revealed plans for a fundraising card drive on February 19 a coffee morning on March 4 to help generate funds and both events were launched at a reception in the Kerry Way pub by Deputy Danny Healy-Rae. Full details will be released closer to the dates.
Maureen, who is very popular in the greater Killarney area, is very actively involved in Killarney Celtic FC and is an avid soccer fan.
