OWEN O’Shea is the new communications officer with Kerry County Council.

The 36-year-old Milltown native has worked for the past two years as a reporter on Radio Kerry and, prior to that, with Kerry’s Eye.

A former Labour Party press office worker, he contested the 2004 local elections for the party in Kerry but was unsuccessful in his attempt to win a seat on Kerry County Council in the Dingle Electoral Area.

He also worked as parliamentary assistant to former Kerry Labour TD Breeda Moynihan-Cronin.

UCD graduate Owen is also an established author and he penned a book on Kerry’s political dynasties as well as ghost writing the late Fianna Fail TD John O’Leary’s autobiography.

He is currently working on a new book on Kerry ‘s involvement in the 1916 Rising.
